Solar Flare

This is a high contrast digital portrait utilizing a pop art aesthetic defined by flat, unmixed fields of color.

A subject with an expansive, stylized black afro and a high neck black shirt is positioned centrally against an intense, saturated yellow background.

The subject’s eyes are completely concealed behind a pair of large, opaque, circular yellow sunglasses.

The composition is graphic and bold, drawing the viewer’s eye immediately to the interplay between the stark black silhouette and the overwhelming vibrancy of the yellow backdrop.

A Possible Meaning

The artwork can be interpreted through the lens of modern Afrocentric identity and expression.

Anonymity as Empowerment: The subject's concealed eyes offer a sense of anonymity and self composure, directing attention away from personal vulnerability and toward a presentation of collective style and cultural pride.

Pop Culture Iconography: By presenting the subject in a style that mimics commercial art, the artist elevates the individual to the status of a pop culture icon, celebrating a strong, fashionable, and unapologetic presence within popular media, pushing back against traditional narratives.
